Selected for SIGGRAPH 2017's Appy Hour for Innovative Mobile Apps
What?
An interactive storybook for children learning to read!
Why?
Pete & The Orange Fox is inspired by an original story and drawings of a five year old author!  However, the picture "book" was written phonetically.  I thought it would make a fun game if the player had to figure out the correct spelling of words to proceed to the next page, thus engaging young readers!
How?
I built Pete and The Orange Fox in HTML5 for mobility. To maintain the look and feel of a story created by a child, I scanned construction paper pieces into the computer and created animated collages as illustrative moving images for the tale. Puzzles and surprises keep emerging readers amused and learning!
Outcomes!
- Pete & The Orange Fox was selected for SIGGRAPH’s Appy Hour for Innovative Mobile Apps for its creative digital graphics and modification of existing programs for new uses
- Invited Presenter, SIGGRAPH (largest international computer graphics/interactive techniques conference), Appy Hour for Innovative Mobile Apps
-  My innovatory work was published as a Paper in The Proceedings of ACM SIGGRAPH ’17, “Pete and the orange Fox: an eStorybook reading game for young readers" https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3098900.3098904
